The drama "Begin Again" revolves around the story of Lu Fang Ning, a domineering female CEO, and Ling Rui, a compassionate doctor, who enters into a contract marriage for practical reasons. As they exchange their vows, they embark on a new journey together, learning to navigate the complexities of love.
Lu Fang Ning, the General Manager of Luning Group, stands out as a talented and wealthy woman, known for her beauty. Approaching her thirties, she faces familial expectations to safeguard her family's legacy through marriage and motherhood, aligning with her father's wishes. Marrying and having a child is not only a personal choice but also a strategic move to secure a crucial project. In her culture, demonstrating responsibility and maturity as a woman with significant responsibilities is vital, reflecting the delicate balance she navigates between personal desires and societal obligations.
In her mission to secure a husband and fulfil her family's expectations, Lu Fang Ning crosses paths with Ling Rui, a surgeon with striking looks and a compassionate heart. In her eyes, he embodies the ideal candidate to fit into her strategic plan. While her motivation initially revolves around personal gain, her standards remain high, and she recognizes that a partner like Ling Rui is a valuable asset.
To achieve her goal, Lu Fang Ning employs a series of intricate schemes to integrate herself into Ling Rui's life, eventually leading to their marriage. Her background as a successful businesswoman, driven by power and wealth, suggests a woman accustomed to getting what she wants. Despite her initial intentions, the union with Ling Rui presents intriguing dynamics - the collision of her corporate prowess and his medical expertise, a blend of ambition and compassion, and a story that explores the complexities of merging two seemingly different worlds.
In the evolution of their relationship, Lu Fang Ning experiences a profound transformation. What began as a strategic marriage eventually evolved into a heartfelt connection. This shift leads her to undergo personal growth, as she acknowledges past mistakes and strives for positive change. Yet, navigating a marriage, even one initially built on pragmatism, presents unexpected challenges.
Lu Fang Ning's journey highlights the power of love to inspire self-improvement and personal evolution, even in the face of unconventional beginnings. It also underscores the complexity of maintaining a union founded on practicality in the real world, where emotions and practicality often collide.
Begin Again is a drama which explores the complexities of love, personal growth, and the dynamics of contract marriage, making it a compelling drama filled with twists and turns.
Lu Fangning as a strong, bossy, and non-girly CEO impressed you. Her straightforwardness and workaholic nature set her apart from typical female leads in Chinese dramas. Although she was straightforward she never harmed others and put her loved ones forward than herself. She has a genuine and beautiful personality hidden in herself which is revealed along with the series.
I loved the premise of a contract marriage between a domineering CEO and a doctor, and the addition of the stalker plot added depth to the story. The gradual revelation of Lu Fangning's family secrets kept the intrigue alive. Who knows a strong domineering CEO would be betrayed by her fellow. A sword in the back.
The chemistry between characters, both among the main cast and secondary characters, felt authentic and enjoyable. I appreciated the spices between Simon, Dr Ling, and his friend, as well as the love-hate dynamic between Tang Pingping and Lu Fangning. The balance between the various couples' storylines was also well-executed. It has especially seen how Lu Fangning's character evolved over time and the six-year time skips allowed for meaningful changes in the characters.
